The type species (lectotype) of the genus Rhabdonia is Rhabdonia coccinea (Harvey) Harvey.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Antrocentrum nigrescens (Harvey) Kraft & Min-Thein.

Origin of Species Name
Participle B (Latin), spreading, outspread, diverging from the axis at almost 90 degrees (Stearn 1973).
