Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Ahnfeltia is Ahnfeltia plicata (Hudson) E.M.Fries.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ahnfeltiopsis okamurae P.C.Silva & DeCew.

Syntype localities: various in Japan; (Silva & al. 1996: 318) Notes: Ehime Pref. and Kochi Pref. etc. (Mikami 1965: 194).
Origin of Species Name
Adjective A (Latin), forked; having a small notch at apex (Stearn 1973).
General Environment
This is a marine species.
Habitat
Growing on rocks between tide marks (Mikami 1965: 194).
