The type species (holotype) of the genus Lomentaria is Lomentaria articulata (Hudson) Lyngbye.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Erythroclonium corallinum (Suhr) Holmes.

Type locality: South Africa (probably near mouth of Kowie River, Cape Province; (Silva & al. 1996: 329) Notes: This type locality was first recorded by R.Norris (1988a: 107).
