The type species (lectotype) of the genus Herposiphonia is Herposiphonia tenella (C.Agardh) Ambronn.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Herposiphonia parca Setchell.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), a sombre brown, but often used to indicate darkness of colour (Stearn 1973).
