Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Halimeda is Halimeda tuna (J.Ellis & Solander) J.V.Lamouroux.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Halimeda velasquezii W.R.Taylor.

This is a marine species.

Habitat
Very common near Nawa, growing near the low tide mark, being often found on the perpendiclular walls of deep pools.
