The type species (holotype) of the genus Nitzschia is Nitzschia elongata Hassal.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Homoeocladia celaenoae (Lobban, Ashworth, Calaor & E.C.Theriot) Lobban & Ashworth.
