The type species (holotype) of the genus Fauchea is Fauchea repens (C.Agardh) Montagne & Bory.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Gloiocladia laciniata (J.Agardh) N.Sánchez & RodrÃguez-Prieto.

Type locality: San Pedro, California, U.S.A.; (Setchell 1912: 238) Lectotype: N.L. Gardner; UC; 173507 (Hawkes 1986: 331) Notes: According to Setchell (1912), the f. pygmaea grows chiefly on jointed corallines which form a zone at the lower tide mark or just below.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), slashed into narrow divisions with tapering, pointed incisions (Stearn 1973).
