The type species (holotype) of the genus Neopyropia is Neopyropia yezoensis (Ueda) L.-E.Yang & J.Brodie.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pyropia fucicola (V.Krishnamurthy) S.C.Lindstrom.
