This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Fragilaria phantasma (M.H.Hohn) C.E.Wetzel, Potapova & D.M.Williams.

Rio Amazonas, Peru, South America, GC25861a, holotype (ANSP!).; (Hohn 1966: 464) Holotype: ANSP; GC25861a (Wetzel & al. 2022: 2) Notes: Epitype (designated by Wetzel & al. 2022: 2, for the above holotype): Slide SP-400224 deposited at the Herbário Científico do Estado Maria Eneyda P. Kauffmann Fidalgo, São Paulo (SP). The epitype is represented by Fig. 9.
