Type locality: "Rocky reef of the sublittoral zone in Porto Valitsa" [Greece]; (Konstantinou & al. 2020: [5-6]) Holotype: October 10, 2014; depth of 9.6 m; in association with the sponge Agelas oroides (Schmidt, 1864).; ?AU; A01004 (Konstantinou & al. 2020: [6]) Notes: Reference Strain: TAU-MAC 0615T, Thessaloniki Aristotle University Microalgae and Cyanobacteria (TAU-MAC) culture collection.

Adjective (Latin), spongy, porous, soft like a wet sponge (Stearn 1973).
