Type species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Fucus is Fucus vesiculosus Linnaeus.
Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Halymenia floresii (Clemente) C.Agardh
Eponomy
Named for D. Francisco Flores, a Mexican landowner.
Synonym(s)
No synonyms are currently included in AlgaeBase.
Nomenclatural notes
The protologue includes "D. Francisco Flores hanc speciem dicare volui, fucorum Luciferifani indagatori diligentissimo acutissimoque." Thus the species is named to honour Dom Flores and the epithet should be 'floresii' not 'floresia' as commonly rendered in the literature.
