This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Gracilaria canaliculata Sonder
Type locality: Wagap, New Caledonia (South & Skelton 2003: 722). Holotype: Vieillard; 1863; L 941,61-93 (barcode L 0194040) (Millar & Prud'homme van Reine 2005: 545). Notes: Holotype: Vieillard # 2128.

Adjective (Latin), canaliculate, with a longitudinal channel or groove (Stearn 1973).
