Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Gracilaria is Gracilaria compressa (C.Agardh) Greville.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Gracilaria parvispora I.A.Abbott.

Holotype locality: Budaiao, Dongshan, Fujian Province, China; (Zhang & Xia 1992: 198) Holotype: Zhang Junfu; 25 April 1982; Growing on gravel or shells in lower littoral tide pools or in the subtidal zone; QD; 82-686 (Zhang & Xia 1992: 198) Notes: Holotype: Cystocarpic. Isotypes: From the same collection as holotype, AST 82-684, spermatangial; AST 82-685, tetrasporangial.
