The type species (lectotype) of the genus Cystoseira is Cystoseira concatenata (Linnaeus) C.Agardh.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Cystophora grevillei (C.Agardh ex Sonder) J.Agardh.

Type locality: Western Australia (probably near Fremantle); (Silva & al. 1996: 645) Type: Preiss; MEL; 286 (Womersley 1987: 374) Notes: Silva et al. (1996) recommend consulting Womersley (1964: 85) for more information on the type locality of this species.
