This is a marine species.

Type information
Type locality: "Hab. in mari Indico ad littora Hindostaniae. (Wigt [Wight] in Hb. Hookeri sub. n:o 238 et 240!)" (Agardh 1848: 318). Lectotype: TCD 1118 (: 902). Notes: According to Mattio et al. (2010: 902), the type locality is West Indies, which is an error for "E. Indies" as indicated on the specimen in TCD
