Nomenclatural notes
According to Silva et al. (1996: 241), the conspecificity of Jania affinis and Cheilosporum pulchellum was noted by Johansen & Womersley (1994: 619) but since the two names have equal priority, those authors should have used the former name rather than proposing a new combination. - (27 Apr 2009) - Wendy Guiry

According to Womersley & Johansen in Womersley (1996: 309) this species is currently accepted and Cheilosporum pulchellum Harvey is its basionym.

General environment
This is a marine species.

Appears to be a deep water species, usually epiphytic (Womersley & Johansen 1996: 310).
