Type species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Halymenia is Halymenia floresii (Clemente) C.Agardh.
Status of name
This name is of an entity that is currently accepted taxonomically.
Type information
Type locality: Near La Paz, Baja California, Mexico (Dawson 1954: 274). Holotype: Feb. 28, 1911; New York Botanical Garden, New York Vives 20d (Dawson 1954: 274). Notes: Dawson (1954: 274): A portion of the holotype specimen is on sheet 649499 in the Herbarium of the University of California Berkeley.

Taxonomic notes
Hernández-Kantun et al. (2009) note that according to Abbott (1967), this is a synonym of H. californica (in part). They conclude that it is definitely a member of the genus Halymenia. - (24 Mar 2010) - Wendy Guiry
