The type species (lectotype) of the genus Echinocaulon is Echinocaulon rigidum (M.Vahl) Kützing.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Parviphycus myriocladus (Børgesen) G.H.Boo, Y.Cai, J.Y.Kim & S.M.Boo .

Type locality: Malabar Hill, Bombay, India [Mumbai, India]; (Silva & al. 1996: 152) Holotype: F. Børgesen, no. 5235; on rock in exposed places near high water mark; C; Borgesens' four slides, barcode C-A-92391 (Boo et al. 2015: 478, 479) Notes: Lectotype = specimen shown in fig. 5a fide Hatta & Prud'homme van Reine, 1991 (INA). [see discussion on pp. 479, 480 in Boo et al., 2015].
