Type Information
Type locality: "... les mers Australes" [the Southern Seas]; (Lamarck 1815: 235) Lectotype: F. Péron & C.-A. Lesueur; no date; PC; 0028630 [AR 4638] (Johansen & Womersley 1986: 552, 560) Notes: Typ[e locality is likely to be southwestern Australia or Tasmania (Johansen & Womersley 1986: 560). "Péron and Lesueur were members of the 1800–1804 French scientific expedition to Australian waters under the command of T. N. Baudin (Ducker 1979). The expedition visited various Australian localities from Shark Bay, Western Australia, around the southern coast (including Tasmania) and up the eastern coast to Port Jackson (Sydney region), all within the known geographic range of J. rosea. Explicit collection information also is lacking for all other original material, and it is entirely possible that it was sourced from more than one locality."
