The type species (holotype) of the genus Phycodrys is Phycodrys sinuosa (Goodenough & Woodward) Kützing.
Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Phycodrys ovifolia (Kützing) M.J.Wynne
Type information
Type locality: "Barranco, near. Lima, Peru" (Dawson, Acleto & Foldvik 1964: 81). Holotype: Emma Cerrate 2997; January 9, 1960; drift. LAM (Dawson, Acleto & Foldvik 1964: 81).
Eponomy
Named for Emma Cerrate, the collector.
