Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Polysiphonia fibrillosa (C.Agardh) Sprengel
Type locality: Bahusia: Christineberg, Koster (Index Nominum Algarum).
Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), violet, refers to the blue-red colours nearer blue (Stearn 1973).
