The type species (holotype) of the genus Rhodophyllis is Rhodophyllis bifida (J.V.Lamouroux) K├╝tzing.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Fimbrifolium dichotomum (Lepechin) G.I.Hansen

Syntype localities: Kola Bay, environs of the Murman Biological Station, Salny and Shurinov islands [Russian Arctic] (Mikhaylova & Sokolova 2019: 1306). Syntype: E. Sinova; 7 VIII 1909; subtidal zone (depth 70 fathoms),. LE LE A0000077, LE A0000078 (Mikhaylova & Sokolova 2019: 1306).

Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), dichotomous, having divisions always in pairs (Stearn 1973).
