Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Rivularia is Rivularia atra Roth ex Bornet & Flahault.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Eudesme virescens (Carmichael ex Berkeley) J.Agardh.

Nomenclatural note
As pointed out by Kylin (1940: 28), Rivularia zosterae was collected at Kiel where according to Reinke (1889: 76) only Eudesme virescens is known to occur. In this case, R. zosterae becomes the earliest available name for this taxon and Aegira the genus to accomodate it (Athanasiadis, 1996). Invalid: pre-starting-point name. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
