This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Dictyota gunniana (J.Agardh) I.Hörnig, R.Schnetter & Prud'homme
Type locality: Port Phillip Heads, Victoria, Australia (Womersley 1987: 204). Holotype: LD 49650 (De Clerck 2003: 181). Notes: According to Womersley (1987: 204), the type was collected by Wilson, Jan. 1882.
Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), soft, delicate (Brown 1946).

De Clerck (2003) notes that the name appears for the first time as a name (without description) in Wilson (1892: 162) but was later described by J. Agardh (1894: 95).
Synonymy in De Clerck (2003) follows Phillips (1992: 672, 679). According to Womersley (1987), this is a currently accepted name.
