Type locality: "Ad Nizzam" (Nice, Alpes-Maritimes, France) (Agardh 1842: 16). Lectotype: LD, Herb. Agardh 14161 (Womersley 1984: 150).

Adjective (Latin), dwarf (Stearn 1973).
