Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Callithamnion is Callithamnion corymbosum (Smith) Lyngbye.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Colaconema daviesii (Dillwyn) Stegenga.

Type locality: Fremantle, Western Australia; (Silva & al. 1996: 97)

Origin of Species Name
Participle (Latin), rooting, putting forth aerial roots (Stearn 1973).
