Type locality: Punta Norte, Isla Cedros, Baja California, Mexico (Dawson 1953: 84). Holotype: Dawson; Oct. 30, 1951; On shells of living Haliotus. HAHF Dawson 10543, in vial 2691 and in tray 56 (Dawson 1953: 84). Notes: Fragment of type (LAM no. 500230, now at UC) examined by Santelices (2007).
