Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Haematocelis is Haematocelis rubens J.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Agissea novae-hollandiae (Kützing) Pestana, Lyra, Cassano & J.M.C. Nunes.

Type Information
Nov. Holl. Sieber; (Index Nominum Algarum) Notes: Womersley (1994: 158) notes that no specimens were found in Herb. Agardh, LD, but an unnamed sheet under P. multifida is labelled "e nov. Hollandia. Sieb. in Hb. Diesing." and this may be the type of H. australis, and is identical to P. multifida (=P. novae-hollandiae).

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), south, southern (Stearn 1973).
