Type locality: Norway (Gunnerus 1776: 127). Epitype: M. Foslie; Norway, Nordland, Roberg 1884; TRH (Jørgensen 2012 Notes: "Lectotype (designated here): [icon in] Gunnerus, Fl. Norveg. 2: t. 7, f. 5. 1776 – Epitype (designated here): Norway, Nordland, Roberg, 1884, M. Foslie (TRH). The epitype is a young specimen of Laminaria saccharina (L.) Lamour. according to Foslie (1885)."
