The type species (holotype) of the genus Lyngbya is Lyngbya confervoides C.Agardh ex Gomont.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Phormidium holdenii (Forti) Branco, Sant'Anna, Azevedo & Sormus.
