The type species (lectotype) of the genus Halosaccion is Halosaccion hydrophorum (Postels & Ruprecht) Kützing.
Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Chrysymenia wrightii (Harvey) Yamada
Named for Charles Wright (1811-1885), American botanist and collector. In 1853 and 1856 he took part in the Rodgers-Ringgold North Pacific Exploring and Surveying Expedition.

This is a marine species.
Type locality: "Hakodadi, Japan." [Hakodate, Hokkaido] (Harvey 1860: 332). Lectotype: C. Wright; 'on rocks at low tide'. TCD (Masuda et al. 1995: 196, fig. 19).
