The type species (holotype) of the genus Corallopsis is Corallopsis salicornia (C.Agardh) Greville.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Galaxaura magna Kjellman.

Type locality: von der südafrikenschen Küste; Notes: Silva, Basson & Moe (1996: 107) give Algoa Bay as the type locality
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), dichotomous, having divisions always in pairs (Stearn 1973).
