This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Galaxaura rugosa (J.Ellis & Solander) J.V.Lamouroux
Type locality: "ad Novam Hollandiam austro-occidentalem" (Rottnest Island, Western Australia) (Silva & al. 1996: 111). Notes: This type locality was first described by Huisman & Borowitzka (1900: 153, fig. 10) (Silva et al., 1996)

Adjective (Latin), collapsing (Stearn 1973).
