Porphyra amethystea Kützing
Type locality: Ireland (Kützing 1843: 383). Lectotype: Shuttleworth; 1831; rocks in intertidal. L (Brodie & Irvine 2003: 130). Notes: Shuttleworth is known to have been in Renvyl, Co. Galway in 1831 and 1832 (Dictionary of National Biography, vol. 18, p. 176). He appears to have sent several Irish specimens to Kützing.
