The type species (lectotype) of the genus Peyssonnelia is Peyssonnelia squamaria (S.G.Gmelin) Decaisne ex J.Agardh.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Peyssonnelia calcea var. frutescens (Me.Lemoine) Denizot.

Origin of Species Name
Participle B (Latin), becoming shrubby (Stearn 1973).
