Type locality: "Møller, H.A.; [Indonesia]; Sydkysten av Java [= south coast of Java], Palaboehan Ratoe; 'Koralrev [= coral reef]'; viii.1897; slide 1638; [no other collection data]; [no pfa]; [Note: Holotype of Mastophora melobesioides f. varians Foslie. Additional data - Woelkerling 1993: 235. Adey & Lebednik 1967: 15 mistakenly list ‘Kalmar’ as the collector. Kalmar, Sweden, is where Hj. Möller, the correct collector, was based prior to 1917]"; (Woelkerling & al. 2005: 29) Holotype: TRH; A1-44 (Woelkerling & al. 2005: 29)
