This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Rhodymenia flabellata (Baardseth) G.W.Saunders, C.M.Brooks & SU.Scott.

Syntype localities: Tristan da Cunha and Nightingale Islands, Tristan da Cunha; (Baardseth 1941: 83) Notes: Lectotypified on an isotype in the Natural History Museum (BM: BM000610806, Egil Baardseth, no. 87 (Saunders et al., 2019: 117).

Adjective (Latin), flabellate, fan-shaped (Stearn 1973).
