Type locality: Tortuga Island, Gulf of California (Setchell & Gardner 1924: 707). Holotype: Ivan M. Johnson No. 16; June; Growing on rocks in the upper sublittoral belt. CAS 1323 (Setchell & Gardner 1924: 707).
