The type species (holotype) of the genus Predaea is Predaea masonii (Setchell & N.L.Gardner) G.De Toni.

Holotype locality: Lord Howe Island, NSW, Australia. (31o 31’S; long. 159o04’E). (Kraft 1984: 4). Holotype: G. Kraft & R. Ricker; 9 December 1978; The single specimen was collected on corallinaceous-covered basalt from 14m depth at the mouth of Old Gulch. University of Melbourne Herbarium, MELU K9550 Figs 1,2 (Kraft 1984: 4).
