The type species (holotype) of the genus Ectocarpus is Ectocarpus siliculosus (Dillwyn) Lyngbye.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Hincksia bryantii (Setchell & N.L.Gardner) J.N.Norris.
