Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Ceramium is Ceramium virgatum Roth.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ceramothamnion interruptum (Barros-Barreto & Maggs) M.J.Wynne & C.W.Schneider.
Type Information
Type locality: Eureka, near La Paz, Lower California.; (Setchell & Gardner 1924: 776) Holotype: Marchant (no.78); May; Epiphytic on other algae; UC; missing (Setchell & Gardner 1924: 776) Notes: Holotype in UC (Cho et al. 2003); however, INA noted on 15 May 2023 that they type is missing.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), interrupted, not continued (Stearn 1973).
