Type locality: Guaymas, Mexico. (Setchell & Gardner 1924: 777). Type: Marchant (no.91); May; Cast ashore among other algae. (Setchell & Gardner 1924: 777). Notes: According to Dawson (1962: 58) the type specimen was collected from material cast ashore at Guaymas, Sonora, Mexico and is now located in Herb. University of California, Berkeley.
