The type species (holotype) of the genus Wildemania is Wildemania amplissima (Kjellman) Foslie.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Porphyra umbilicalis Kützing.

Type locality: "in Oceano" ; (Linnaeus 1753: 1163) Epitype: J. Brodie & P.K. Hayes; 23 July 1998; From the back of a limpet; BM; 000769632 (Brodie & al. 2008: 1330) Notes: A lectotype was designated by Brodie & Irvine (2003: 130) as Dillenius, Hist. Musc.: Pl. 8: fig. 3 (1742 '1741'). An epitype, the lectotype of Porphyra umbilicalis Kützing, q.v. from Scotland, was subsequently selected by Brodie & al. (2008: 1330).

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), slashed into narrow divisions with tapering, pointed incisions (Stearn 1973).
