The type species (holotype) of the genus Acetabularia is Acetabularia acetabulum (Linnaeus) P.C.Silva.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Parvocaulis parvulus (Solms-Laubach) S.Berger, Fettweiss, Gleissberg, Liddle, U.Richter, Sawitzky & Zuccarello.
