Type locality: Puerto Refugio, Isla Angel de la Guarda, Gulf of California (Dawson 1962: 97). Type: Dawson 181-40; 28 January 1940; Herb. A. Hancock Foundation 59 (Dawson 1962: 97). Notes: Dawson (1962: 97) notes that the type specimen was dredged in 22-44 m.

Adjective (Latin), divaricate, spreading at a wide angle (Stearn 1985).
