Type species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Antithamnionella is Antithamnionella sarniensis Lyle.
Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Antithamnionella graeffei (Grunow) Athanasiadis

Type information
Type locality: Flat Island, Mauritius (Silva & al. 1996: 381). Lectotype: ‘dredged at a depth of 30 fathoms’. Børgesen’s original illustrations (Athanasiadis 1996: 107). Notes: Type: tetrasporophyte; 16 Sept 1925, C809, slide (Cormaci & Furnari 1988). Holotype: C (Schneider, 1984).
