Type locality: Isla Guadalupe, Baja California, Mexico (Setchell & Gardner 1930: 172). Holotype: CAS 173642 (Yoshida 1998: 889). Notes: Dawson (1962: 51) gives the following information for the type: H. L. Mason 36, April, in Herb. California Academy of Sciences (173642); an isotye slide is in Herb. A. Hancock Foundation. He also notes that the type specimen was epiphytic on Codium.
