The type species (holotype) of the genus Phacus is Phacus longicauda (Ehrenberg) Dujardin.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Lepocinclis hispidula (Eichwald) Daday

Type information
Type locality: [Russia?] stehendes Wasser von Kaugern (w. of Riga) (Index Nominum Algarum). Notes: "Holotype: Eichwald 1847, pl. 8, fig. 5. Epitype: Figure 3u designated herein that supports the holotype (Eichwald 1847, pl. 8, fig. 5)." (Lukomska-Kowalczyk & al. 2019). The type locality is "Russia, Moscow district" according to the latter authors.

Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), somewhat bristly.
