The type species (holotype) of the genus Cyclotella is Cyclotella tecta Håkansson & R.Ross.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Stephanocyclus gamma (Sovereign) Kulikovskiy, Genkal & Kociolek.
