The type species (holotype) of the genus Brongniartella is Brongniartella elegans Bory.

Adjective (Latin), south, southern (Stearn 1973).

This is a marine species.

Habitat
A common species on rough-water to sheltered coasts, ranging from low tide level to deep water (Womersley 2003: 239).
